The schizophrenia of link building

Link buying is an effective marketing strategy but has an evil twin in Googlebombing. Here's a look at the issues.

Over the past six months, much has been made over the good and bad of link buying. Angry blog posts, posturing from Google, and near fights at search conferences made this one of the biggest issues in 2007. It's an epic struggle of good versus evil in which the credibility of the internet hangs in the balance -- or at least that's how it seems.

Word of mouth: empower or cower

Since you can't stop online chatter about your brand, provide consumers with a controlled platform to spread the word. It will benefit you both.

This year, a third of marketers at large companies expect marketing budgets to increase by up to 5 percent, while over half (53 percent) of marketers believe their greatest challenge is to measure marketing ROI, according to the recent CMO Council survey in January.

A notable 41 percent switched agencies, 38 percent found different web design firms, and 26 percent went to new PR agencies, citing "lack of innovation" and "no value-added thinking" as the most common reasons for change. Isn't it a question of not seeing measurable results?

Internet video is here.

Internet video is around the corner. Internet video is a flop.

These are just a few of the wild claims that have been swirling around internet video for the past few months.

Buttressed by a protracted writers' strike (now over), proponents of the medium have taken the opportunity to declare victory, calling web video a bona fide rival to TV.

Vaio'nun kampanyasının konsepti “be like no other” yani “diğerleri gibi olma”.

Super Bowl winners and losers

Fox, the once-perfect Patriots and the underdog Giants combined to create one of the biggest media events ever. But many of this year's ads treated the web as an afterthought. Did brands fumble the digital handoff?

As mass marketing events go, Super Bowl XLII may have been one of the biggest in history, second only to the series finale of "M*A*S*H." (The Nielsen numbers are still coming in). And while millions of people tuned in for the game and countless more watched just for the ads, something was missing -- digital integration.
